The Landrum United Methodist Church Bread Ministry started 7 years ago as a twice weekly gathering of day old bread products from Landrum area food stores. The bread collected was then given away to those attending the monthly Community Meal. It grew to four times a week with the growth in the number of people in need of food and bread. After three years, two other churches in the Landrum area began providing a free meal on the second Saturday of each month and the LUMC Bread Ministry provided bread to be distributed to the greater number of people being served in the community. The LUMC Bread Minstry now provides bread to be distributed to five Landrum area churches serving dinners four Saturdays each month. The number of people supporting the LUMC Bread Ministry has grown to five and collect bread seven days a week. We also grew from two freezers to five in the LUMC Outreach Ministries “Pantry” and one on the back porch at the office. The LUMC Office also distributes bread to those in need who come to the office during the week.
