Music Ministry
There are over 1150 references to music and singing praises to God found in the Bible. (Bowen, 2005) Music is a universal language, one rich with emotion, transcending a variety of barriers. The sheer number of biblical references to music speaks to the importance God places on music with regard to worship. Music unifies us, helps us to relate to scripture on an emotional level, and allows us to carry these teachings with us into our daily lives. We welcome anyone who is lead to become part of the music ministry here at Landrum Methodist.

"Meeting weekly to sing and prepare music for a meaningful worship experience creates a bond that unites us. We become family in a community of faith as we prepare and sing together praising God through song." JG
"Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind, and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole from Heaven to the Soul."
"Singing in the choir is therapy for me it lifts my spirits when i'm feeling down. A commitment to the choir is so rewarding." Wanda
"The Chancel Choir has blessed me beyond measure for 30 years. The fellowship, compassion, and worshipping of God through music is wonderful. Being part of this group is a joy." NTS
“Music is and has always been my refuge. It is an escape from the harsh realities of the world, an outlet for my intense emotions, and a way for me to connect spiritually with my Lord and Savior. Chancel Choir has been an integral part of my spiritual life since I was in my early teens. It is my favorite form of worship. Sometimes when I am praising the Lord through song I feel the Holy Spirit race through my veins and fill my soul. It is the most amazing blessing and I am ever so thankful for the gift of music.” SQ
"It is great to be part of a diverse voiced and compatible group of singers who enjoy new experiences with different types of gospel music. We welcome any new voices to join us." Tom and Jane Harrison.
"I love to sing and praise the Lord." Lois Foster
"For me the choir is something I enjoy on a couple of levels. I've liked getting to know different people and enjoying their company. It's remarkable to hear the individual talents blended together especially when we learn challenging pieces. But, I especially enjoy being uplifted by the music, the words, and their meaning. I hope that is conveyed to the congregation as well." Deb C.
"My philosophy of singing is "Go ALL out, don't judge." The better you know your music the easier it is to go all out. What has already come out of your mouth is history, forget about it, and concentrate on what comes next. I enjoy contributing to the worship experience and reflecting the spirit through song. Phil G
"It's more than a choir - It's family within family. Every song is a party, a celebration of God's love, grace, and peace. Every rehearsal is a social event - laughing at, and with each other. Sometimes even unhealthy snacks! There's a song in the air, and a song in the heart. For the joy of knowing God, and his Holy family at Landrum UMC!" PB
"I cry every time we sing "Majesty and Glory". It is the most beautiful, soul filling song I know." Nancy B.
Being a member of the Chancel Choir is both a joy and a blessing. We all share the love of music - even when it is most challenging. We are a family within our church family and enjoy sharing stories, laughing, and supporting one another through all life's seasons. Join us!! CB
Amazing Grace, O'God, Our Help in Ages Past, Away in a Manger, Steal Away, and other snippets of music bring me and tell me I am not alone. Keep a Song in your Heart and share it!
"To me, Choir is family. LUMC choir, especially under J's leadership, is a blessing to me in too many ways to count. My choir family is the best! I have learned so much, like the difference between tenor and bass depending on the song. There is no other choir family like LUMC choir! It is certainly one of a kind. I believe God called our choir members together to sing his praises on Sunday mornings. Without our awesome music leader choir wouldn't be the same. Each and every one of my fellow choir members are a blessing to me. They are the best, Thank y'all for being the best christian, strong faith role models." JB
